Child Protection

ChezaCheza is dedicated to providing a safe and free space for all children, defined as anyone under the age of 18, to express themselves through dance. We are committed, as an organisation and anyone that represents us, to safeguard the rights of all children and protect them from any type of harm, abuse or neglect for them to reach their full potential. Our policy is in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989 and Kenya’s Children Act of 2001.

We ensure that all ChezaCheza staff and volunteers are aware of, understand and actively implement our Child Protection Policy, which outlines policies and procedures for keeping our children safe. This policy includes guidelines on due diligence on all new staff, clear reporting procedures in case of any allegations of child abuse and guidelines on acceptable and unacceptable behaviour towards children. ChezaCheza also promotes the active involvement of children in their own protection and raising awareness of our policies to our children and their parents/caregivers. The implementation and reinforcement of our Child Protection Policy are under the responsibility of a dedicated Child Protection Officer.

To safeguard our policy and practices, we review the Child Protection Policy annually through feedback by our staff and in consultancy with our children and their parents/ caregivers. ChezaCheza updates the Child Protection Policy after each annual review and adapts it in case of any changes in global or national laws.
